Creating Calm:
Transforming a Federation House into a Wellness Retreat
Botany, Australia
The house had raw Federation charm. The couple required their home to be transformed into a serene wellness retreat—a sanctuary that supported emotional well-being while reflecting their love of fitness and the ocean. The space needed connection, personality, and a design that made the most of a modest budget.
Solution:
The Rochelle Kerr Group (RKG) collaborated with the clients to craft a personalised design inspired by their lifestyle. The team focused on creating an environment that promoted wellness, comfort, and emotional connection.
1. Colour and Texture
• Introduced a deep teal blue accent wall to evoke calmness and depth.
• Soft furnishings in natural linens and cottons complemented the retro cane furniture for an earthy feel.
2. Layering Old and New
• Integrated the existing marble-accented fireplace and original timber floorboards.
• Added a blue-toned swirly wool area rug for underfoot comfort and style.
3. Incorporating Personal Touches
• Curated and positioned the partners' framed art collection to add a personal and emotional layer to the design.
The RKG managed the project from concept to execution, ensuring a seamless process. The team sourced sustainable and unique materials, including pieces from The Treasured collection, aligning with the clients' desire for timeless elegance and ethical choices. The transformation culminated in a serene, character-rich space where the couple could find solace and pride. A professional photoshoot captured the remarkable before-and-after journey, immortalising the emotional impact of the design. The finished space surpassed expectations, delivering a calming retreat infused with character and personal meaning—all within the constraints of a modest budget.
“This was a huge impact project. A lot was riding on the emotional response and feeling it was going to evoke. It was achieved and much more on the budget. My partners were thrilled with the finished space." Rochelle Kerr
